The core of a students musical training is the study of their principal instrument - be it piano, voice, violin, guitar or any orchestral instrument. Here on a one to one basis students master the intricacies of their chosen instrument. Students at the Academy may study classical, jazz or pop idioms or a combination of all three.
Students are encouraged but not required to take the Royal Conservatory Exams. Students who complete grade 8 level Royal Conservatory may receive high school credit toward graduation. Students wanting to enter music studies at the post secondary level, college or university should complete the grade 6 Royal Conservatory Exams. Students who complete the Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (ARCT) are qualified to teach music privately or at a Conservatory, Community Music School, College or University.
